Eyelid tightening
Wrinkles, saggy eyelids or bags under the eyes form when the skin and the muscles of the eyelid lose their elasticity. To correct this, I remove excess skin and fatty tissue. However, greater elasticity of the skin cannot be regained in this way.
Operation
The operation can be done under local anesthesia. I mark out the areas of skin and fatty tissue to be removed and make an incision along the fold of skin of the upper eyelid. When operating on the lower lid an incision in made just below the eye lash line. After closing the wound, we protect the scar with skin-friendly thin adhesive plasters. Full range of vision is immediately restored and there should no pain.
Incidents and complications are rare, (‘dry-eye’ symptom, droopy eye, bleeding, infection etc.) but they can never be entirely ruled out.
Post operation
Any swelling and discoloration caused by bruising in the lower lid and cheek area usually will disappear after two to three weeks. In rare cases, lid closure or the flow of tears may be impaired. Both will rapidly return to normal or can be corrected, if needed.
Cold packs can rapidly bring down any swelling. I remove the skin plasters and stitches just one week after the operation.
Sometimes the costs will be covered by the insurance, if there is partial vision.
Lower eyelid/Bags under the eyes
Bags under the eyes are formed because of loss of elasticity and small fat deposits underneath the eyes. For a correction these small amounts of fatty tissue are removed or used to cover the orbital rim. This gives you a much fresher appearance, but the skin’s elasticity cannot be restored in this way.
Operation
You will be lightly anaesthetized but still conscious or under local anaesthesia. An incision is made along the edge of the bottom eyelid. The clearly visible excess fat is removed. Full range of vision is immediately restored and there should be no pain.
Incidents and complications are rare, (‘dry-eye’ symptom, droopy eye, bleeding, infection etc.) but they can never be excluded.
